Juneteenth, Freedom Day, or Emancipation Day is an American holiday commemorating the abolition of slavery in the United States of America. It celebrates the emancipation of African American Slaves throughout the former confederacy and Native American lands. While the Emancipation proclamation was signed January 1, 1863, it was not enforced in the confederate states until after the confederacy collapsed.
